Where is Uluru or Ayers Rock and why does it change color?

I am wanting to visit Uluru when I come to Australia later this year and would like to know exactly where it is, what is the best accommodation around the area and the best way to get there. Also I have heard that the rock itself changes color throughout the day and was wondering why does it do this and when is the best time to see it in order to get some of those great photographs that you see around.
