How long does it take to drive from Sydney to Perth?

We are looking at travelling right across the country of Australia from Sydney to Perth and in a hire car and are curious as to how far it is exactly. So how many hours will it take for us to drive all the way from Sydney to Perth and what are the best places for stopping off and visiting along the way.

The drive from Sydney to Perth is a long and arduous one and should not be taken likely. It is approximately 4,000 kilometres and will take about 4 days if you drive 10-12 hours a day. It would, however, be much more enjoyable if you took between 5-7 days to travel across the country and then you could visit places such as Dubbo's open range zoo, the mines in Broken Hill, Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie.
