Can any seasoned travellers please tell me what the differences are between a hotel and a motel in Australia. I see properties with different names and want to know if there is any difference in standards at all.

The word motel comes from the words "motor hotel" and generally describes an accommodation property that is single or 2 level, has a common balcony in front of all the rooms opening onto the car parking area. Hence you can drive your car right up to your hotel room.
As a general rule a hotels a larger in size than motels and hotels also normally have more services and facilities for the traveller than a motel.
