Has Brisbane got a decent public transport system?

I have heard lots of things about the public transport system in Brisbane and would like the option of the locals as to what the public transport system is actually like. Is it easy to get around the Brisbane city and suburbs, is the cost expensive, do the services run regularly and is there anything else to watch out for.
